The CHAMPS-study DK is a longitudinal, population-based cohort and natural experiment initiated in 2008 in the municipality of Svendborg, Denmark. The study was designed to examine how increased school-based physical education and sports participation affect children’s physical, metabolic, musculoskeletal, and psychosocial health from childhood to young adulthood.<\/p>\n
Study Collection Waves:<\/p>\n
CHAMPS 1 (f0\u2013f5, 2008\u20132012)<\/p>\n
Anthropometry, physical fitness, motor performance, body composition, blood pressure, objective physical activity monitoring (accelerometery), injury surveillance, biomarkers, socio-demographics, and self-reported lifestyle (parental and participant).<\/p>\n
CHAMPS 2 (f6\u2013f7, 2012\u20132014)<\/p>\n
Continuation of CHAMPS 1 measures: anthropometry, physical fitness, motor performance, body composition, blood pressure, accelerometery, injury surveillance, biomarkers, socio-demographics, and self-reported lifestyle (parental and participant).<\/p>\n
Added assessment of pubertal development.<\/p>\n
Sound and Hearing (fh0, 2014)<\/p>\n
Self-reported auditory symptoms and sound tolerance (e.g., tinnitus, hyperacusis, sound avoidance, concerns about noise-induced hearing loss).<\/p>\n
Clinical assessments: otoscopy, pure-tone audiometry, tympanometry, and detailed otological history.<\/p>\n
CHAMPS 3 (f8, 2015)<\/p>\n
Measures repeated from CHAMPS 2: anthropometry, physical fitness, motor performance, body composition, blood pressure, accelerometery, injury surveillance, biomarkers, socio-demographics, self-reported lifestyle (parental and participant), and pubertal development.<\/p>\n
Added academic and cognitive performance assessments, including executive function and scholastic outcomes.<\/p>\n
EYESIGHT (f8, 2015)<\/p>\n
Ocular assessments: refractive status, myopia classification, ocular biometry, retinal vascular structure, retinal imaging, choroidal structure, macular structure, visual function, and comprehensive ophthalmological examination.<\/p>\n
CHAMPS 4 (f9, 2022\u20132024)<\/p>\n
Core measures: anthropometry, body composition, blood pressure, accelerometery, biomarkers, socio-demographics, and self-reported lifestyle (parental and participant).<\/p>\n
Added measures: hair cortisol, stress, well-being and pfas.<\/p>\n
Sound and Hearing 2 (fh9, 2022\u20132024)<\/p>\n
Measures repeated from Sound and Hearing: Self-reported auditory symptoms and sound tolerance (tinnitus, hyperacusis, sound avoidance, concerns about noise-induced hearing loss), listening habits, and environmental noise exposure.<\/p>\n
Clinical assessments: otoscopy, audiometry, tympanometry, and detailed otological history.<\/p>\n
